  1. In Alabama you could go to Huntsville and do something NASA-related. You *should* also go to Bryant Denny, but I can understand how a football mecca might not quite be the culture you're trying to cultivate, Steelers home game notwithstanding. :)

In New Hampshire, you should detour and go to Portsmouth. It is a beautiful, OLD city and Strawberry Banke is wonderful to walk through, especially in the summer. You can also sit right on the water and eat a lobster that was probably brought right up from the water shortly before you eat it. I know you don't much care for shellfish, but maybe make an exception??

In New Haven, CT, you can go to Louis' Lunch, the birthplace of the hamburger. They still cook on their original grills. Pretty cool.

Massachusetts -- Plymouth ("Plimouth") Rock/Plantation, and Salem.

In NY, you might enjoy going all the way out to the end of Long Island. Montauk, The End. It's beautiful and people don't realize that is also part of NY. And yes, you can drive through the Hamptons on your way. It's really famous, obviously, but it's also wonderful. And by the way, thanks for capitalizing The City when referring to NYC. ;) Smooches!

In Maine, you should go to LL Bean in Freeport. I know it's shopping, but it's BEAN's!

I feel inspired by this list and might have to make one of my own ... hmm.
